GO WITH JOE
EST. 2026
A fifty-mile charity run and day of service dedicated to mobilizing the community for a greater cause.
ABOUT US
Go With Joe is a student-led initiative founded by Joe Khalil ’26 with one goal: to inspire tangible charitable action through bold commitment and community support. The movement is centered around a seemingly impossible challenge—a nonstop 50-mile run to raise funds and awareness for local organizations like Miracle Hill Ministries and the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen.
While Joe runs 50 miles through Spartanburg, others join the mission by volunteering, fundraising, writing letters of encouragement, and participating in events like a 5K and service projects across the community.
At its core, Go With Joe is about more than endurance—it’s about empathy. It's about showing up for our neighbors and proving:
"when there is a why, the how does not matter."
More than 3,000 people in Spartanburg County — 1,400 of them children — experience homelessness, according to the 2025 State of Homelessness Report. Feeding America’s Mind the Meal Gap report in 2023 showed that about one in seven people living in Spartanburg County experiences food insecurity.
Organizations like the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen and Miracle Hill Ministries are essential in the fight against homelessness and hunger in Spartanburg County.
They provide consistent access to meals, shelter, and critical support services for individuals and families facing difficult circumstances.
Beyond meeting immediate needs, these organizations offer stability, dignity, and pathways toward long-term recovery—serving as lifelines for some of the most vulnerable members of the community.

Hero Highlights
"In Honor of Ms. Lou"
For 25 years, Ms. Lou served as the executive director of the Spartanburg Soup Kitchen. The impact she had not only the people around her, but on the city of Spartanburg is unparalleled.
Her dedication to care for other people is an enduring inspiration to the people who know her and her story.
A true hero to say the least.
"Three Words"
It’s difficult to even begin to imagine the amount of hardship and uncertainty people here in Spartanburg go through on a day-to-day basis because of homelessness. This is just one of the many hard, yet inspiring stories. The adversity seemed insurmountable.

Yet in the end, she came back to let them know “she made it.”
"Just One Step."
“That could never be me” is a phrase heard all too often. In a world where stability can feel permanent, it is almost too easy nowadays to believe that our assets, jobs, and routines render us invincible, that we are somehow immune to the same adversities that have visited those experiencing homelessness.

The reality is, “we are all just one step away from being homeless ourselves,” as Ms. Zina puts it.
